Chapel of Saint Joseph the Worker

  • Chapel of Saint Joseph the Worker

In a tranquil part of Hrvatsko Zagorje, close to the town of Klanjec, the chapel’s bell tower rises in Lučelnica, where many believers congregate on Sunday and on holidays. The current building of the Chapel of Saint Joseph the Worker in Lučelnica was constructed in 1983. For the needs of parishioners, religious teaching and worship, a completely new chapel was built at the site where once stood a smaller building. The smaller chapel was built at the beginning of 1966. That is when the need to organise religious teachings for 150 children was recognised, so the first building was built on the monastery meadow not too far from the school.

According to a decree from the Archbishop’s Spiritual Table, it was proclaimed a chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph the Worker. The chapel held Sunday School, Sunday worship and worshiper meetings. In the following period, an extension was built for Sunday School and a sacristy. A tower was also built, housing the bell from the Chapel of Saint Florian.

The chapel was renovated in 2008 when a parking lot was built, and stained glass was installed, it received a new electrified bell and renovated pews from the Klanjec parish church. To the delight of all worshipers and parishioners in the area, the chapel was officially blessed on 1st May 2008. Thus this chapel, alongside the Klanjec parish church, became a pastoral centre to the delight of numerous parishioners.
