The Chapel of Saint George by the Lake was once the oldest church in the municipality of Veliko Trgovišće. It is assumed that, in its place, there used to be a wooden chapel, first mentioned in the 14th century, and in 1501, on the list of parishes. The current chapel was built in 1622.

The chapel stands next to the local cemetery where citizens from nearby villages are buried. The brick 16-metre bell tower dominates the building. The main altar with a painting of Saint George on a horse slaying the dragon from 1760 stands in the middle of the chapel. To the sides are the statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, and alongside them are the statues of Saint Fabian and Saint Martin. A painting of the Holy Trinity is located on the upper part of the altar.

Behind the main altar, in the middle, there is a window which is assumed to be from the time when the church was built and has the year 1622 carved in it. Historians consider this to be the most valuable architectural detail of this chapel. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the chapel was the centre of church and social life.

Along the northern wall of the chapel, there is a pilgrimage altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Count Gabriel Erdödy had it built in 1719, and only a section of the pulpit he also had constructed currently remains. The chapel is 16.60 metres long and 10.60 metres wide. At one time, the building had four bells, and three remain today: the bells of Saint George, Saint Anthony and Saint Joseph. It also houses an organ from 1935, made by master Petar Ovčarić.
